Euthanasia

A compassionate procedure for cats and dogs suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness.

Dogs, cats and other pets are called man’s best friend for good reason. They are with us through thick and thin, providing unconditional love. When their journey with us here on earth comes to end, it is a truly heartbreaking time. Euthanasia is the last act of kindness and mercy we can provide for our patients, especially those who are suffering from incurable illnesses and chronic pain. Please do not hesitate to call us at 416-481-1127 when you are ready to start the conversation.

What is euthanasia?

Otherwise known as assisted death, euthanasia is the most humane option to end the life of a pet. It is only considered when all other options have been exhausted to treat your pet’s terminal condition or chronic pain. The process is completely pain free. The euthanasia drug is typically administered via IV. It causes your pet to fall into a peaceful sleep. Once unconscious, it will cause their internal organs to shut down. The process is complete in a matter of minutes.

When should I consider euthanasia for my pet?

During a private consultation, we will discuss the best option for your pet. The questions we will go over closely asses your pet’s quality of life. If they are in constant pain, confused, have extreme fatigue/sleeping most of the time, no longer enjoy their favourite activities, no longer responsive to their treatment, cannot eat/drink/relieve themselves on their own, then it may be time to start the process on their end-of-life-care.
